Ode Records)

Ode Records, now known as Ode Sounds and Visuals, is the record label that was started by producer Lou Adler, and released the soundtrack LP to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Ode was Adler's second label, started in 1967 after he sold his first label, Dunhill, to ABC. For its first two years, Ode was distributed by CBS and affiliated label Epic. In 1970, Adler struck a distribution deal with A&M Records in the U.S. that lasted until 1976, which included the first release of the Roxy Cast LP as well as a picture Sleeved single of Sweet Transvestite. Beginning in 1976, Ode was distributed by CBS where it remained until 1978. Although an Ode production, The Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack LP saw limited release at the time the film's debut in the UK and Canada, but not in the US. It eventually surfaced in 1978 as part of a distribution deal with JEM records.

In 1981, the Shock Treatment Soundtrack was released and distributed by Warner Brothers.

In 1989, Adler once again brought his material to A&M, with the expanded title "Ode Sounds and Visuals." Adler retained the rights to Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment, which both had releases via Rhino in 1990. Current affiliations for older Ode product include CBS (for Carole King), Warner Bros (for Cheech and Chong) with other product distributed by Interscope and UMe (Universal Music Entertainment).
