History

Located at 2230 North Farwell Avenue The Oriental Theater in Milwaukee is the longest continuously running location for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with it’s first weekly showing on January 7, 1978 making this the longest continuing midnight run of the movie.

The ornate movie house was built and opened in 1927 with East Indian décor, and not Asian, as one would expect. It wasdesigned by Gustave A. Dick and Alex Bauer and features 2 minaret towers, 3 stained glass chandeliers, several hand drawn murals, 6 bigger-than-life Buddhas, dozens of original draperies, 8 porcelain lions, and hundreds of elephants.

Currently owned and operated by Landmark Theatres, the current cast is Sensual Daydreams. They perfom once a month on the second Saturday.
