Sadie Corré as the littlest Transylvanian

Sadie Corré was and English dancer, actress and pantomime artist who appeared as a Transylvanian in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Sadie Corré was born on May 31, 1918 in Bognor Regis, Sussex, England as Sarah Corré and began acting at age 7 (on the Palace Pier, Brighton), beginning eight decades of performing. Corré was educated and trained at the Italia Conti stage school, and first professional role was in the opera Madam Butterfly at age 12. A couple years later, she appeared in a film with Marlene Dietrich. She also appeared in cabarets as a young dancer with a comedic tap dance routine. Sadie’s big break came in her late teens, when she began touring with the variety act “Hughie Green and His Gang” from 1937-1939.

A variety of stage and screen roles followed, with a bulk of her work being in pantomime stage roles with some of England’s best known variety theater acts.

Sadie received the screen part of a Transylvanian via a friend’s agent, who called her after hearing of a casting call for unusual looking actors. Measuring in at 4’ 1”, Sadie Corré easily won the role, though she had to provide her own costume for the production. Although it was just one in a series of accomplishments for her as an actress, Sadie appreciated the cult stardom Rocky Horror brought her.

Other film, stage and commercial work followed until Sadie suffered a stroke in 2007, forcing her to retire. She passed away in August of 2009. Her ashes were scattered in section 3 M of Golders Green in London, and her Transylvanian costume is framed and on display at the Dearly Departed Gallery in Hollywood, CA.
