Annabel Leventon
Annabel Leventon (April 20, 1942) is an English actress who played a Transylvanian in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Annabel Leventon grew up in Hertfordshire and went to Oxford University from 1961-64, and got her first stage experience acting with Oxford Dramatic Society. She joined a pop group called the Fourbeats, and did other stage work, including 8 months with American director Tom O’Horgan’s La Mama Troupe in New York City before landing the role of Sheila in O’Horgan’s London stage version of Hair (where she met Tim Curry). Annabel was nominated as Actress of the Year, and continued in the role in the subsequent Paris production.
In 1974, Annabel and Gaye Brown formed a theatrical glam rock group called Rock Bottom, that was signed to RCA records. Through Annabel’s friendship with Michael White and others associated with the original London production of The Rocky Horror Show, the trio (which also included Diane Langton) landed a Sunday night concert spot at the King's Road Theater when Rocky was dark. Rock Bottom became the basis for the 1976/1977 television series Rock Follies, which starred Tim Curry and Nell Campbell, though the show became part of a lengthy legal battle for the original members who were shut out of the production. Ultimately they won the suit which gave them writing credit and a cash settlement.
Many television and film roles followed, including her role as a Transylvanian in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (credited as Annabelle Leventon) as well as an audience member in Shock Treatment.
On October 5,2017, Leventon released the book The Real Rock Follies: The Great Girl Band Rip-Off of 1976 detailing the story of Rock Bottom and the legal battle that followed.
