History

The Vista Theatre is a historic single-screen movie theater in Los Angeles CA. It is the location of Barry Bostwick Handprints.

The Vista Theatre was one of the few venues to exhibit Shock Treatment during the films initial release beginning October 30, 1981. Operated by Landmark Theatres at the time, the film ran as a midnight-only feature on Friday and Saturday nights for a few weeks to tepid response, closing by the end of the year.

After the closure of the legendary Tiffany Theater in 1983, The Vista screened The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Friday and Saturday at midnight. Patrons who phoned the Vista for information were warned via their taped message that the Los Angeles Times described as "no fun at all" in its March 28, 1983 edition; "All patrons will be searched. No drugs, Alcoholic beverages, knives, guns or hand grenades will be allowed in the theater." The run was brief, though it did include a Halloween double feature of Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment with a costume contest. By 1985, Landmark sold their interest in the theater and the new management concentrated more on new releases.

On July 6, 2018, The Rocky Horror Picture Show returned to The Vista for a special summer engagement. To commemorate its return to Hollywood and Sunset Blvd, Barry Bostwick was honored by the Los Angeles Rocky Horror community by placing Barry Bostwick Handprints in a ceremony in the cement forecourt of the theater.

The following month, on August 3, 2018, Dave Navarro (of Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers fame) joined the cast to play guitar live during the "wedding scene."
