It's the 91 S...My Favorite Bus!

91 S was a public transportation bus operated by the Southern California Rapid Transit District (RTD) until 1983. The 91 S route began at 6th & Hill Streets in Downtown Los Angeles and headed West on Sunset Blvd., and with a transfer at the Beverly Hills Hotel on the 76 (later combined and renumbered the 2), all the way to Pacific Coast Highway at the Pacific Ocean, and then return to Downtown Los Angeles. Part of the route traveled on the Sunset Strip, passing both the legendary Tiffany Theater and the Roxy Theatre. The 91 S was a primary mode of transportation to the Tiffany Theater for many people that did not own or drive a car.
One night in 1978, Lisa Kurtz Sutton was standing out in front of the Tiffany to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show when she saw the 91 S passing by. Seeing the bus, she exclaimed, "It's the 91 S ...My Favorite Bus!". She was overheard by several of the people also waiting in line. From then on, every time "The 91 S" passed by the Tiffany, people would point at the bus and shout "It's The 91 S...My Favorite Bus!". It soon became integrated as one of several "audience callbacks" going on outside the theater intended to get the people waiting in line outside the Tiffany excited for the upcoming show. This went on until the Tiffany closed on March 13, 1983. The route number was changed by the RTD later that same year.
